DIY Scrappy American Flag

I made the cutest American Flag about 2 years ago... And I wrote a tutorial for it. But I thought I could do a better job and maybe just maybe you want something to decorate with for the 4th of July.

I love the way this flag turned out and I am always excited to display it for the summer holidays. It compliments any party you throw during the summer and it is darling.

Supplies you need

  • Dowel Rod

  • Red, White fabric and ribbon for the strips

  • Blue fabric with white stars for the corner

  • Rotary Cutter

  • Cutting Mat

Instructions

Cut Fabric & Ribbon

The length of ribbon and fabric is 38 inches. The width of the ribbon was however it came, the width of the fabric was between 1/2 inch and 1 inch. I tried to vary it so it wasn't super uniform.

Tie Fabric and Ribbon

This has got to be the easiest DIY project out there. It's simple, take a strip of fabric or ribbon and tie it to the dowel rod. I kind of placed the main red and white fabric and then added in as I wanted in the end.

Blue Fabric with White Stars

When I was finished with the red and white stripes it was time to add the corner fabric piece. It was small, 9inX9in. I poked tiny holes in two adjacent corners and then used twine to tie it to the dowel.

String to Hang

The same twine I used to add the blue square was also the string for hanging the flag.

This flag is easy, patriotic and fun. You can use scraps of things you already have to make it!
