You're Engaged, Now What?

I have had people ask me over the years, I got engaged over (name a holiday) and I'm not sure where to start. I give a little bit of advice here to each bride and it always stays the same.

Decide what is important to you and your groom and put your budget there.

I know there are a lot of options, and I know there are a lot of opinions that go in to a wedding. From your mom to their mom and even some well-meaning aunts, cousins and friends. Everyone will give you their two-cents and then you will have hundreds of ideas, options and feel overwhelmed.

Here is a list of things you need to figure out with you wedding:

  • Budget: You need to know how much money you have to spend on your wedding. This will help you narrow down decisions and what to add or cut from your special day.

  • Important: Remember my advice above? Decide what is most important to you and your groom. Not what everyone else thinks is important.

  • Style: You need to come up with what style you love and want for your wedding. Is it boho? Is it timeless? Elegant? Rustic?

  • Colors: What colors are you drawn to for your wedding? This could help you decide you style as well.

  • Food: What kind of reception are you having? What kind of food do you want to serve your family & friends?

Then, hire someone to help you plan. Hiring a wedding planner/coordinator will help you to make decisions, create a buffer between you and the opinions of others and help you feel confident in the choices you are making. Having the above list taken care of will help any planner in helping you create the wedding of your dreams.
