Making Easter Special

Writer: Sarah Sarah

I thought about changing this post to something else. And then. I stopped myself. If ever there was a time that we needed to make holidays special it is now.

For our family, I would buy plastic eggs, basket gifts and candy. I would hide the eggs and reuse them that afternoon at my in-laws home for the family easter hunt. We would have a pot-luck dinner, I would make my peanut butter cup cookies, the kids would play and we would have the traditional stair photos of everyone.

Easter 2019 before church

This year is going to be different. We won’t be going out to my in-laws. We can’t afford to be around them because they are older and we don’t want to risk it. Here is how I am going to make Easter Special this year. I need it, my family needs it. The world needs it.

Easter Eggs

This year I ordered an egg dying kit, Color Cups and eggs from grocery pick up. The Friday before Easter we will color the eggs. I have loved using my instant pot to hard boil my eggs. Have you tried that? The shells slide right off. Please send all the good vibes my way!

Easter Baskets

My big kids are old enough that Easter baskets aren’t a thing, they are happy with a bag of candy each. So that is what I will do. For Claire and Oliver I perused the dollar spot at Target. It was perfect, so is Amazon. They will get sidewalk chalk, little milk glasses with straws, notebooks to create in, candy and a few more things that I haven’t fully decided on.

Dinner

For Easter dinner I will be pretty traditional. I am planning a classic pot roast with potatoes and carrots. I will make some rolls to go with it. For dessert we will still have the Peanut Butter Cup Cookies (think peanut butter blossoms, but different.).

In the end, Easter is about Christ and his sacrifice for us. We will read the account of the Last Supper, the Atonement and Resurrection. We will hold church in our living room. It will be so special to have that sacred time as a family. I cannot wait to have this year be just us.
